The summer before their senior year, CVCA also have the opportunity to work with "Meeting God in Missions" in the Dominican Republic. These life-changing days are full of hard work, love and worship. Notes about the 2008 Trip: The DR team arrived safely home on 6/29 and some very early 6/30! For the most part, it was a healthy trip, and without injury! We accomplished those things that we had planned on doing, and the Lord accomplished so much more in the hearts of those we reached out to and in our hearts as well! We ministered in 2 Haitian sugar cane villages, and a Compassion International school in Hato Mayor. In these 3 locations we performed a skit and provided a craft as well as formed relationships with kids as we played with them. The gospel was presented at least 6 different times to groups in each of the villages at the end of the week (as well as to the baseball players in the larger village), in the Compassion School, after the Jesus film shown Wed. night, and on Friday and Saturday after soccer games and a baseball game in Hato Mayor (half by adults and half by our students!) Students also were able to work in the medical clinics and do some light construction. Along with this, six computers were set up by Mr. Riordan in the Compassion School, and Mrs. DiPaolo was able to give some instruction on these! What a profitable trip! If at all possible, all of this work was eclipsed by the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of our team during students' "free time"! Our mornings and evenings were filled with incredible worship where our Lord was able to have all the sway in individual lives--all of this can be described as God moving among us and taking control as His people submitted completely to Him! Jim McDonald provided some excellent teaching, along with others, but Jim also helped us process through what God's Spirit was up to, and how we can continue to "fan the Spirit's flame" when we return home! When all was said and done many on the team were ready to get right into CVCA and see what God would do, but in His infinite wisdom He's given the team some time this summer to be more prepared for the fall! Thanks be to God for our Lord Jesus who has provided the way that we might be totally His, and He might be totally ours! Written by Team Leader, Rick Lyons Read the 2008 DR Travel Log
