If you would like to try out for CVCA’s Color Guard, here are the facts you need to know:
• You must attend two clinics where we will teach you basic skills and commands used in Color Guard. Those clinics will be on Wednesday, May 13 and Friday, May 15 from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. The Actual auditions will be on Monday, May 18th from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. You will need to perform skills taught during the clinics at the Audition. Equipment will be provided.
• You must have 4th period free during the Fall semester (Color Guard meets during Band class). When the football season ends, the marching season ends too. At that point, all color guard members will move to a 4th period study hall for the remainder of the semester unless they are in Symphonic Band.
• You must be able to attend Band Camp in August. We will learn most of the marching drill, choreography and routines at band camp:
August 3-6 (8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.)
August 10-13 (8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.)
August 18 and 20 (5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.)
• Color Guard practices on most Wednesdays after school from 3:30 – 4:30 during marching band season.
• The Marching Royals perform at both home and away football games on Friday nights from August 21-October (we ride in school buses to away games). You are expected to be there for each performance. The band sits together in the stands, but has the third quarter free to visit with friends and go to the concession stand.
• The Marching Royals participate in one band show on a Saturday evening in September or October. Dates are TBA. This performance is mandatory.
• Students who participate in Color Guard for two full seasons receive a PE Waiver (are not required to take PE).
• Financial expenses for Color Guard include (based on 2008 season prices):
$30 - Velvet Jazz Pants (we will order for you)
$22 - Black turtleneck leotard (we will order for you)
$10 - Color Guard gloves (we will order for you)
$10 - Color Guard t-shirt (for Spirit Fridays)
$18 - Band Shoes
$55 - Band Fee (covers rental of your Color Guard Warm-ups and Tunic, dinner, and transportation costs for Friday football games.)
