CVCA Men’s Track & Field Finishes Strong With only three seniors competing this spring, including Maurice Goin, Adam Potelicki, and state pole vault qualifier Todd Mazzola, the CVCA men’s track and field team finished the season with quite a kick. After capturing second at the PAC7 championship meet and third overall in the league, the men seemed to gain strength for the state tournament run. The team finished third at the District Meet, a surprising second at the Regional Championships, and 12th overall at the Division II State Meet. Five underclassmen joined Mazzola at the state meet in June: team MVP, junior Kyle Sullinger (4th in the 3200 meter relay; 3rd in the 3200 meter run); and sophomores Stephen Morris (high jump), Coach’s Award-winner Brad Adams (3200 relay; 5th in the 800 meter run), Matt Mucha (3200 relay), and Iron Man trophy-winner Ross Crocker (3200 relay). Other award-winning performers included team Most Improved recipient, sophomore Sean Karhan in the throws, and Mighty in Spirit award-winner, junior Brian Wilkes in the distance events. By traditional track and field standards, the Royals enjoyed a very successful season. Even more importantly, as each athlete strove to put into practice the team verse, (“We put no stumbling block in anyone’s path, so that our ministry will not be discredited,” 2 Corinthians 6:3), he competed to win an eternal prize and to bring glory to the Lord Jesus Christ.
