Baseball 2008 Review
CVCA Baseball 2008: “Diligence: AGG”
The varsity baseball team entered the 2008 season “rebuilding.” This rebuilding process was predicated by the graduation of a record-setting eleven strong seniors in ’07. Eleven underclassmen, therefore, joined the remaining three returning letter winners, all seniors. Rebuilding would prove to be a challenge.
Proverbs 21:5 speaks of diligence. This passage promises to believers that blessings, many times, result from diligence. The 2008 theme “Diligence: AGG” (All for the Glory of God) inspired the young group to work as hard as humanly possible for the glory of God. All of the hard work and diligence paid off in many blessings. This year’s squad remained diligent enough to finish with a record of 18-7, win a PAC 7 league co-championship, a Sectional title, and advance to become District runners-up. These accomplishments testify to their hard work, effort, and attitude. Throughout their struggles and accomplishments, this tight-knitted group grew into a very strong and scrappy team, exciting and fun to watch. They were as equally successful off the field, where many were involved in mission’s trips, service projects, and other extra-curricular activities.
Congratulations to this year’s three graduating seniors: Scott Tipton, Justin Beausoleil, and Brian Shellhaas. These three young men leave a legacy behind of Christian character, integrity, and class. “Tip’s” leadership and MVP season as catcher, “JBo’s” total and selfless hustle in right field, and “Shell’s” perseverance and willingness to play multiple infield positions will be missed.
Coach Cowley’s 2009 team next year looks promising as the eleven returners will be joined by a few players from Coach Gross’s JV squad. The season of 2009 will be a time when the team will need diligence once again, all for the glory of God!
